How many more young lives must be stolen before this city actually wakes up?

The tragic passing of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong has sent shockwaves through New York, and the celebrity receipts are piling up fast. Comedian Michael Blackson didn’t hold back, posting an emotional video demanding justice and calling out the senseless violence claiming our babies. “This has to stop,” he captioned the clip, voice cracking. “We’re losing kings before they even get to wear the crown.”

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, a Bronx native who knows these streets intimately, shared a heartbreaking tribute on his Stories. Just a photo of Javits with a broken heart emoji and “RIP Young King.” Simple. Devastating. The rapper’s been vocal about youth violence before, but this one clearly hit different.

Then came the heavy hitters. NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani — yes, the newly elected progressive firebrand — issued a statement promising “every resource available” to find those responsible. Political points? Maybe. But Leandra Feliz showing up changes everything. The mother of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, brutally murdered in 2018, stood alongside Javits’ family at a vigil. Her presence? A grim passing of the torch no parent should ever have to carry. “I know this pain,” she told reporters. “And I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”

Social media exploded. #JusticeForJavits trending nationwide. Fans dragging the system, demanding metal detectors, mentorship programs, anything. One Twitter user wrote: “We mourn, we hashtag, we forget. Rinse. Repeat. When does it end?” Another: “Thank you Mike Blackson for using your platform. We need more men stepping up.”

The photos from the vigil are gut-wrenching. Balloons. Candles. A jersey with “15” on the back. A mother collapsing into Feliz’s arms. This isn’t content. This is a crisis.

What do you think? A) Celebrity advocacy actually moves the needle on youth violence B) It’s just performative posting until the next tragedy hits
