Is there ANYTHING more brutal than watching your favorite character get absolutely obliterated in front of millions of viewers? Because honey, House of the Dragon just went there, and we are NOT okay.

In what can only be described as the most devastating moment of the season 3 premiere, poor Jacaerys Velaryon – yes, THAT Jacaerys, played by the gorgeous Harry Collett – literally went swimming with the fishes during the Battle of the Gullet. And darling, when we say he went out, we mean he went OUT. The brooding dragon rider got a one-way ticket to Davey Jones’ locker, and his mother Rhaenyra (played by the absolutely phenomenal Emma D’Arcy) is officially down to her last son. Talk about a rough week at the office!

The Battle of the Gullet sequence was absolutely INSANE – all those dragons, all that chaos, and apparently zero swimming lessons for our poor boy. One minute he’s flying high on his dragon, the next he’s taking the plunge into the ocean. HBO really said “let’s traumatize our entire fanbase in one scene,” and honestly? We’re here for the drama, but also our hearts are SHATTERED.

Emma D’Arcy, who portrays the increasingly tortured Queen Rhaenyra, has been making the press rounds talking about this absolutely gut-wrenching scene. Sources close to the production say the cast was genuinely emotional filming this moment. Harry Collett’s exit is apparently going to send ripple effects through the entire season, and we are LIVING for the chaos. This is the kind of shocking moment that makes you literally scream at your television screen and immediately call your bestie to discuss the tragedy.

Let’s be real – Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have built their reputations on killing off beloved characters when you least expect it, and season 3 is clearly not playing around. The writers looked at our happiness and said absolutely not. Rhaenyra is literally falling apart, and frankly, we cannot blame her. This woman cannot catch a single break!

The fan reactions on social media have been absolutely UNHINGED – and we mean that in the most loving way possible. Twitter is melting down, TikTok is a graveyard of grief, and everyone is asking the same question: How much more trauma can Rhaenyra possibly endure? Apparently, the answer is PLENTY.

What do you think? A) Jacaerys’s death was necessary for the plot and perfectly executed B) The writers have gone too far and we demand justice for our favorite character?
