Did HBO really just send us off into the sunset by absolutely DESTROYING our hearts in the Euphoria series finale? Because honey, the season 3 closer on Sunday, May 31st, didn’t just close the book on this iconic series—it threw the entire library into a dumpster fire, and we’re still recovering.

In what can only be described as the most brutal goodbye in television history, Rue Bennett (played by the phenomenal Zendaya) gets absolutely taken out by Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) halfway through the finale episode. And get this—he does it because he discovers that our girl Rue was working undercover to bring him down. Talk about a betrayal that cuts DEEP. Alamo doesn’t just serve her with some harsh words; this man literally ends her storyline for good. The pain he inflicts? Absolutely devastating on every level.

Listen, we were NOT prepared for this kind of emotional devastation. We came into season 3 expecting drama, tears, and character growth. What we got was a full-on massacre of our beloved protagonist. Zendaya’s Rue Bennett has been the HEART of this show since day one, and for HBO to just… eliminate her like that? It’s giving final act energy, and frankly, we’re shook.

The internet is absolutely LOSING IT right now. Twitter is flooded with distraught fans who feel personally victimized by this decision. Some are calling it genius storytelling that subverts expectations. Others are questioning whether the writers had some kind of vendetta against happiness itself. One thing’s for sure—nobody saw this coming, and nobody asked for these feelings.

The controversial move has sparked massive debate about whether killing off your main character is a bold artistic choice or just cruel punishment of the fanbase. Either way, Euphoria definitely went out swinging, and we’re still processing the whiplash. This finale will have people talking for YEARS, whether they loved it or absolutely hated it.

What do you think? A) It was a brilliant, shocking ending that Euphoria needed B) HBO just committed a crime against Rue Bennett fans everywhere
