Is it time to trade our iced coffees for overpriced Chardonnay and head back to the gated communities of Newport Beach, or are we all just collectively hallucinating? For nearly two decades, we’ve been mourning the loss of our favorite teen angst, but the whispers of a potential reboot are getting louder than a Cohen family dinner argument.
Our favorite golden girl Rachel Bilson (the one and only Summer Roberts) and the legendary Melinda Clarke (the queen of chaos, Julie Cooper) aren’t just sitting around looking pretty. They’ve officially kicked off their rewatch podcast, ‘Welcome to the OC, Bitches,’ and honey, the tea is boiling! While they’re busy dissecting every dramatic plot twist and questionable fashion choice from the early 2000s, the subtext is screaming: ‘Give us the sequel!’
But don’t get your hopes up just yet, loves. While the cast is clearly feeling nostalgic and living for the memories, a full-blown revival is still playing hard to get. The original cast members have been dropping hints faster than Seth Cohen drops a witty monologue, leaving us wondering if we’ll see Ryan and Marissa’s legacy reimagined or if we’re just stuck in a perpetual loop of rewatching old episodes.
The internet, as per usual, is absolutely losing its collective mind. Twitter is a battlefield of fans demanding a gritty adult reboot and others who just want to see Julie Cooper cause a scandal in her 50s. Whether it’s a limited series or just a very expensive reunion special, the hunger for that quintessential California sun and high-society drama is real. Will the stars align, or is this just a beautiful, sun-drenched fever dream?
What do you think? A) Bring on the reboot, I need more Newport drama! B) Let the past stay in the past, I’ve moved on.
