Since when did Elon Musk become the arbiter of acceptable celebrity activism? The tech billionaire is at it AGAIN, and this time he’s coming for none other than America’s sweetheart, Anne Hathaway.
On Sunday, July 26, the 55-year-old mogul took to his beloved X platform to unleash his opinions on Hathaway’s 2018 speech supporting LGBTQ+ rights. And honey, he did NOT hold back. “She’s just a marionette. Whoever wrote her speech is the real douchebag,” Musk tweeted, responding to marketing professor Gad Saad’s critique of the Oscar-winning actress.
Let’s pause for a second and really soak in the audacity here, shall we? Musk is essentially claiming that Hathaway didn’t even write her own words—that she’s just some puppet dancing on strings for someone else’s agenda. The irony? Coming from a man who literally owns the platform he’s using to trash-talk her. The lack of self-awareness is absolutely CHEF’S KISS.
Anne Hathaway, who has spent years building her reputation as a thoughtful advocate for social causes, hasn’t publicly responded to Musk’s jabs yet. But given her grace under pressure in past controversies, we’re betting she’s taking the high road while Musk continues his descent into social media chaos.
What’s truly wild is that Musk felt the need to attack a six-year-old speech at all. Like, sir, don’t you have rockets to launch? Tesla stock to worry about? Instead, he’s scrolling through ancient celebrity moments and getting worked up about them. The fixation is giving “I have nothing better to do,” and honestly, we’re here for the entertainment value alone.
The internet, naturally, has opinions. Supporters of Hathaway are defending her activism as genuine and meaningful, while some have pointed out that maybe—just maybe—Musk should focus his energy elsewhere. Meanwhile, his loyal followers are out here acting like he just dropped wisdom from on high.
This isn’t the first time Musk has gone full scorched-earth on celebrities, and it definitely won’t be the last. The man collects feuds like Pokemon cards, and at this point, we’re just waiting to see who’s next on his hit list.
What do you think? A) Anne Hathaway’s activism is genuine and Musk needs to mind his business B) Musk is raising valid concerns about celebrity authenticity
