Did 1980s critics totally BOTCH their job, or are we just now realizing they had absolutely zero taste? Because honey, the tea is PIPING HOT today, and we’re spilling it all over the fact that some absolutely ICONIC films from that decade got absolutely robbed of the recognition they deserved!

While everyone was swooning over Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Back to the Future—don’t get us wrong, we live for those films too—there were OTHER masterpieces getting absolutely dragged by critics who clearly needed their eyes checked. We’re talking about films like Body Double that arrived on the scene and got absolutely ANNIHILATED by the critics, only for us to look back years later and go, ‘Wait, that was actually GENIUS?’

The 1980s were absolutely WILD for cinema, but apparently not every brilliant creation got its moment in the sun when it actually mattered. These films were ahead of their time, misunderstood by the masses, and frankly, CRIMINALLY underrated by the Hollywood establishment. Some were too edgy, some were too controversial, and some were just so innovative that the general public wasn’t ready for that level of cinematic excellence.

What makes this tea even HOTTER is that we’re now in an era where audiences have completely reassessed these films. The internet has given people a platform to scream about how wrong the original critics were, and honestly? We are LIVING for the vindication of these overlooked gems. It’s giving major ‘I told you so’ energy, and we absolutely LOVE to see it.

The ranking that’s circulating right now has got everyone talking, debating, and frankly, getting a little defensive about their own film preferences. Some of you are clutching your pearls about which films made the list, while others are practically rioting in the comments section insisting that THEIR favorite misunderstood ’80s flick should be ranked higher.

The thing is, hindsight is 20/20, and apparently, 1980s critics needed LASIK surgery because they completely missed what made these films so special. Now we’re all sitting here in 2024, rewatching these movies with fresh eyes and wondering how anyone could have gotten it so wrong back then. The audacity! The incompetence! The sheer DISRESPECT to cinematic artistry!

What do you think? A) Those original critics were totally wrong and deserve the criticism they’re getting now B) Some of those films really were overrated and critics had valid points back then
