Seffan Mederious of Covington, Kentucky thought it was totally acceptable to leave his infant daughter ALONE in a bathtub—actively filling with water, mind you—while he kicked back in another room scrolling through his phone like he was lounging poolside in Cabo. When police arrived on the scene Tuesday, May 26, they found the baby FLOATING in the water. We cannot even imagine what that first responder saw when they walked in.
The fact that this man prioritized his phone over his CHILD’S LITERAL LIFE has us absolutely SHOOK. Like sir, what TikTok video could POSSIBLY be worth risking your baby’s safety? The audacity! The negligence! The sheer stupidity of it all! This is exactly why we need to talk about phone addiction being a real issue, because clearly some people cannot be trusted with both a smartphone and parental responsibilities.
Mederious is now facing serious criminal charges, and honestly? He deserves every single one. Social media is already having a FIELD DAY with this story, and rightfully so. Parents are calling him out left and right, reminding everyone that babies require 24/7 supervision—not “I’m gonna put you in the tub and hope for the best” supervision.
The baby is thankfully being cared for, but the trauma from this incident will likely haunt that child for years to come.
