Did HBO really just kill off our favorite addict in the most gut-wrenching way possible? Yes, honey, they absolutely did, and we’re not okay.

Listen, we came into Euphoria’s season 3 finale expecting drama, tears, and probably some questionable life choices from Rue Bennett. What we did NOT expect was for the show to literally END her character’s story by, well, ending her LIFE. That’s right, besties — Zendaya’s iconic train wreck of a protagonist doesn’t make it out of this season alive, and honestly, we’re still picking up the pieces of our shattered hearts.

After narrowly escaping Laurie’s absolutely terrifying drug operation, Rue thought she was finally getting her life together. Spoiler alert: she wasn’t. In a heartbreaking turn of events that had viewers ugly-crying into their snacks, the beloved character’s addiction demons finally caught up with her, and she pays the ultimate price. The show went DARK, darling, and we’re not exaggerating when we say this was the most shocking plot twist since Nate became a full-on villain.

And get this — HBO confirmed that Euphoria won’t be getting a fourth season, which means this genuinely is the end. No redemption arc for Rue. No miraculous recovery story. Just… nothing. The show is done, and our girl is gone. Talk about a departure that leaves us absolutely SHOOK.

The internet has been absolutely melting down since the finale aired last night. Zendaya stans are flooding Twitter with lengthy threads about how they weren’t prepared for this emotional devastation. Fan accounts dedicated to Rue have gone private. People are genuinely grieving like she was a real person — and honestly? Valid. Zendaya delivered such a powerhouse performance throughout the series that her character felt incredibly real to all of us.

What makes this ending even more controversial is that some fans think it’s too dark, while others praise it as the most authentic ending the show could have given. The polarizing finale has sparked debates everywhere from Reddit to TikTok about whether shock value was really necessary or if it was just plain cruel.

One thing’s for sure: Euphoria went out with a bang, and we’re NEVER getting over this. Zendaya’s performance will absolutely go down in TV history, but knowing we’ll never see Rue Bennett again? That’s something we simply cannot accept.

What do you think? A) The ending was devastatingly perfect and exactly what the show needed B) HBO went too far and ruined everything
