How is it legal for a teenager to say ‘I do’ in 2024? Well, buckle up, because West Virginia just proved that some seriously questionable decisions are still happening under the radar, and we are LIVING for this tea.

According to court records from Mason County Courthouse that have resurfaced, Elizabeth Siders married Gary Siders Jr. on March 31, 2008—when she was just FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. And get this: it was totally legal because mommy, daddy, and a judge all signed off on it. Her parents, Brian Ray Russell and Lori Ann Raines, literally gave the green light to their teenage daughter’s wedding. A JUDGE AGREED. We cannot even begin to process.

But wait, there’s more, honey. Fast forward to today, and Elizabeth is now 33 years old. Do you know how many children she’s had? SIXTEEN. That’s right—by age 33, this woman has given birth to sixteen babies. Do the math: that’s roughly one baby every 1.1 years since she got married at fifteen. Our ovaries are officially closed for business just thinking about it.

The internet is absolutely LOSING IT over these court records. Social media is flooded with shocked reactions from people questioning how this was even permitted. Parents are asking if their states have similar loopholes. Legal experts are scratching their heads. And honestly? We’re right there with them, clutching our pearls so hard they might break.

What makes this even spicier is the conversation it’s igniting about child marriage laws in America. While some states have tightened restrictions, clearly West Virginia was playing by different rules back in 2008. And apparently, still might be? The fact that a judge approved this is absolutely wild to us.

Elizabeth’s story is either the most controversial love story ever, or a cautionary tale about parental consent laws that desperately need updating—we honestly can’t decide. What we DO know is that this woman has been on a completely different life trajectory than most of her peers since high school.

The court documents don’t lie, the math doesn’t lie, and neither do we. This is 100% real, 100% documented, and 100% raising eyebrows across the country.

What do you think? A) These parental consent laws need to be completely abolished, or B) Parents should have the right to approve teen marriages if they choose?
