Can a Legally Blonde prequel actually be GOOD? Girl, YES—and we’re absolutely living for the tea!

Listen, when Prime Video first announced they were serving us a spinoff about Elle Woods in high school, we’ll admit it: the doubters came out SWINGING. “It’s just a cash grab,” they said. “Lightning can’t strike twice,” they whined. But plot twist, bestie—Elle just proved every single naysayer WRONG, and we are here for this redemption arc.

The eight-episode candy-coated masterpiece premieres Wednesday, July 1, and trust us when we say this isn’t your basic prequel cash-in. Newcomer Lexi Minetree absolutely SLAYS as young Elle Woods, bringing that signature sparkly pink energy we all know and love while actually making us care about her high school journey. The girl can ACT, and that’s the real tea.

As if we needed reminding, the original 2001 Legally Blonde taught us that you literally cannot judge a book by its cover—sparkly pink or otherwise. Turns out, the same rules apply to spinoffs! Critics came in expecting a shallow, lazy cash grab, but instead they got a genuinely charming series that somehow captures lightning in a bottle (again).

What’s absolutely sending us is how the show manages to honor what made the original iconic while carving its own fabulous path. We’re talking witty dialogue, genuine character development, and—shocking absolutely no one—a truly iconic female lead who proves brains AND beauty aren’t mutually exclusive. Revolutionary? Maybe. But also, it’s 2024, and we’re STILL having to explain this? The audacity of the doubters.

The streaming world is absolutely buzzing. Social media is EXPLODING with stans defending the series against lingering skeptics. “I came to hate-watch and left OBSESSED,” one Twitter user confessed. Another wrote: “Elle is serving looks AND substance.” The people are SPEAKING, and they’re saying this prequel is actually worth your precious viewing time.

Will this shut up the naysayers once and for all? We certainly hope so. Because apparently, in 2024, we still need to learn that underestimating something—or someone—based on appearances is basically the whole moral of the story. Elle Woods would be so disappointed in y’all.

So what do you think? A) Elle is the prequel we didn’t know we needed and it SLAPS B) It’s still just a cash grab and you’re not watching it
