Is it time for wealthy Black women to stop throwing their coins at luxury brands that don’t even want their business? Girl, YES. Because apparently, some fancy European fashion houses didn’t get the memo that Black excellence is WEALTHY excellence, honey.
The tea is piping hot from Milan, darling. Savannah James—yes, THAT Savannah James, wife of basketball royalty LeBron James—got turned away at a Hermès boutique like she was some rando off the street. Can you even IMAGINE? The audacity! The disrespect! The absolute lack of taste from that employee!
But wait, it gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). That Hermès worker has already been FIRED faster than you can say “designer handbag.” The luxury brand is clearly trying to do damage control, but honey, the damage is already done. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of treatment at high-end fashion houses, and frankly, we’re exhausted.
What really has us GAGGED is that this incident is shining a major spotlight on a problem that’s been festering in the luxury world for YEARS. Black women with serious bank accounts are being treated like they can’t afford a designer napkin, let alone a $10,000 Birkin bag. It’s giving discrimination, it’s giving elitism, and it’s giving us all the reasons to shop ELSEWHERE.
The internet is absolutely DRAGGING Hermès right now, and rightfully so. Savannah James didn’t even have to go full celebrity clap-back mode—the brand’s own employee did the heavy lifting for her. Fans are calling for boycotts, demanding the fashion world do better, and honestly? We’re here for the accountability moment.
This whole mess has sparked a much-needed conversation about whether these legacy luxury brands deserve our loyalty when they clearly don’t respect Black customers. Why spend your hard-earned money at places that make you feel unwelcome? There are literally HUNDREDS of fashion houses hungry for Black dollars, period.
Hermès better get it together and start training their staff on basic human decency AND business sense. Because luxury brands, listen up: Black women are the culture, and we’re absolutely the money. Treat us accordingly or get LEFT.
