The 29-year-old heartthrob had what director Zach Cregger is calling a “near-death experience” when a giant, body-sized blood bag nearly became his literal executioner on set. Yes, you read that right – a BODY-SIZED blood bag. This isn’t your average Halloween decoration, darling. We’re talking a massive prop that apparently has a mind of its own and zero chill about safety protocols.
According to Cregger, Austin was running down the street during filming when this oversized bag of fake blood came dangerously close to taking him out. The director was so shook by the incident that he felt compelled to spill the details, probably because he was still processing the adrenaline rush of nearly losing his lead actor. Talk about a Hollywood horror story that’s MORE terrifying than anything that could happen in an actual Resident Evil movie!
The incident was so brief that it only made it into the trailer for a fleeting moment, but apparently what happened behind the scenes was absolutely WILD. We’re imagining Austin running for his life while screaming, “This is NOT in my contract!” Meanwhile, the prop department is probably having an emergency meeting about OSHA violations.
Austin being the absolute professional that he is, clearly survived this blood-soaked ordeal to live and act another day. But can we just take a moment to appreciate the dedication (and slight insanity) required to dodge life-threatening props in the name of cinema? This man is out here treating his stunt work like an Olympic sport.
